- The future (fears, hopes, or dreams)
I think a lot of my fears for the future surround the current state of international politics and the increasing lack of empathy in the world. I fear that the mistakes of the past will continue to be repeated, but with expanding technology that has the capacity to kill more efficiently than ever before. I fear that capitalism and monetary greed will continue to replace humanity and community. On the other-side of this, I hope and dream for the opposite. I hope that the state of the world continues to push people to expand their thoughts beyond the comfort of ignorance to the plights of others. I dream of a future where we can recognize overt and systemic oppression and make active, intentional change for equity and equality. I hope that in the future opposing genocide is not a controversial opinion. It is really hard for me not be cynical in this current political climate that welcomes bigotry while silencing empathy, but I believe that continuing to act with the values and intentions of these hopes and dreams for a better future are crucial to not giving up the fight.
